Today’s White Blood Cell (WBC) Count is 0.4 (Normal is 3.5-10)

Whoah that’s low!  That means that he is neutropenic, for the first time.  Neutropenic means highly suceptible to infection, and also means we all must wear masks to visit him.  The masks are a little annoying — sweaty on the inside.

We’re not sure if the counts will go any lower - if indeed they have bottomed out. It would be hard to go much lower!  Tomorrow will tell, I guess.  After they do bottom out, it will be steady growth of the WBCs as the stem cells engraft.  Grow cells grow!

At 3pm, he will receive a shot of growth factor to boost his WBCs.

So things are steady today, but he’s a little lethargic.  We never thought we’d see the day where he is lethargic and quiet!
